Lean Body Mass Calculator
Boer (1984) estimates lean mass from height and weight. It is not a DEXA or Bod Pod measurement.
How it works
Male equation: 0.407×kg + 0.267×cm − 19.2. Female equation: 0.252×kg + 0.473×cm − 48.3. The result must be positive and less than scale weight.
Boer is an anthropometric estimate used in some clinical contexts; athletes with high muscle may be mis-estimated.
Formula
Male: 0.407×kg + 0.267×cm − 19.2 Female: 0.252×kg + 0.473×cm − 48.3
Worked examples

FAQ
- What is lean body mass?
Everything that is not fat mass — muscle, bone, organs, water — as estimated by this equation.
- Why Boer?
It is a commonly cited height-and-weight LBM equation with separate male and female coefficients.
- Can LBM exceed body weight?
Not in reality. If the equation would exceed scale weight, the result is rejected.
