Fraction to Decimal Converter

Enter the top and bottom of a fraction to see the decimal expansion and the equivalent percentage.

How it works

A fraction numerator/denominator is the division numerator ÷ denominator. 1/4 is 0.25. Multiplying that decimal by 100 gives the percentage 25%. Improper fractions are allowed: 3/2 is 1.5 and 150%. A zero denominator is undefined and is not shown as Infinity.

Formula

Decimal = numerator ÷ denominator
Percentage = decimal × 100

Worked examples

  • 1 / 4 0.25, 25%
  • 3 / 2 1.5, 150%

Useful notes

  • This is exact division in floating point, then rounded for display. Repeating decimals such as 1/3 show a rounded 0.333333.
  • For a simplified A:B comparison rather than a single decimal, use the ratio calculator.
