How it works
Nutrition labels, bar recipes and pharmacy cups mix millilitres and US fluid ounces. A US liquid gallon is 128 US fluid ounces, so 1 US fl oz = 3.785411784 L ÷ 128 = 29.5735295625 mL. This page divides millilitres by that constant.
Medicine is the careful case. A “30 mL” dose cup is 1.0144 US fl oz — essentially one US fluid ounce. A 5 mL teaspoon (metric) is 0.1691 US fl oz, not the same as a US customary teaspoon (about 4.93 mL). Follow the device printed on the package, then convert only if you must report fl oz.
Drinks are the casual case. A 330 mL can is 11.1586 US fl oz — close to a US 12 oz can (354.88 mL). A 500 mL bottle is 16.9070 US fl oz, a little over a US pint (16 fl oz). A 750 mL wine bottle is 25.3605 US fl oz (a US “fifth” is 757 mL historically; modern wine is 750 mL).
An Imperial fluid ounce is 28.4130625 mL. UK cocktail books using Imperial fl oz will read slightly high if you treat them as US fl oz. Water’s mass in grams is close to millilitres, but oil and syrup are not; this page never reports grams.
Cups, tablespoons and shots are defined from the fluid ounce. Convert to fl oz first, then apply 8 fl oz per US cup if you need cups.
