How it works
Fahrenheit and Celsius are linear scales with different zero points and degree sizes. A Celsius degree is 1.8 Fahrenheit degrees, and Fahrenheit’s zero is 32 degrees below the freezing point of water. That is why the conversion both scales by 9/5 and then shifts by 32. The two scales meet at −40.
