How it works
Visitors from metric countries, and anyone following a US recipe, need the inverse of the 9/5 + 32 formula: subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9. 68°F, a common indoor setpoint, is exactly 20°C. 86°F is 30°C. 104°F is 40°C.
US weather headlines talk in Fahrenheit. 45°F is 7.22°C — a cold spring day. 75°F is 23.89°C. 95°F is 35°C. Heat warnings that mention a heat index are not the same as the air temperature you convert here.
Baking is where rounding shows up. 325°F is 162.78°C. 350°F is 176.67°C. 375°F is 190.56°C. 400°F is 204.44°C. European ovens in 5°C or 10°C steps will not hit those numbers exactly; pick the nearest mark and watch the bake, or use a thermometer.
A 98.6°F oral reading is 37°C. 100.4°F is 38°C, a common fever threshold in Celsius charts. 102°F is 38.89°C. This converter does not diagnose.
The “subtract 30 and divide by 2” trick turns 68°F into 19°C instead of 20°C. Fine for packing a jacket, not for a lab or an oven.
A change of 10°F is 5.56°C. Do not subtract 32 from a difference — that offset is only for a point on the scale. Rankine is Fahrenheit plus 459.67 and is not converted here.
