Day of Week Calculator
Pick a date to see the weekday name. Useful for planning, checking historical dates, or answering “what day was that?”
How it works
The result is the weekday of that calendar date in the Gregorian calendar. The calculation uses the date only — there is no time of day — so a late evening in one time zone cannot roll the weekday into tomorrow. Leap days are real dates: 29 February 2024 was a Thursday.
Formula
Weekday = Gregorian calendar weekday of the given YYYY-MM-DD date
Worked examples
- 2024-01-31 → Wednesday
- 2024-02-29 → Thursday
Useful notes
- This is a calendar lookup, not a duration. Use Days From Today if you need a date N days away.
FAQ
- Does my time zone change the weekday?
- No. The tool uses the calendar date you enter, not the current clock in your time zone.
- Does this work for dates in the past?
- Yes, for Gregorian calendar dates the browser can represent. Very early historical dates may not match local calendar reforms.
- What about 29 February?
- Leap days are valid. A non-leap 29 February is rejected as an invalid date.
