Grams to Ounces Converter
Convert a kitchen, postage or nutrition mass written in grams into avoirdupois ounces — the ounce on US food labels and kitchen scales, not a troy ounce.

How to use
- Enter grams from the packet, recipe or scale.
- Read avoirdupois ounces. 100 g is 3.5274 oz; 28.3495 g is 1 oz.
- Do not use this for fluid ounces of milk or oil. Those are volume.
- For whole kilograms, use KG to LBS instead of converting grams in chunks.
How it works
Metric recipes and EU nutrition panels list grams. US cups-and-ounces cookbooks and postage counters still want ounces. This page divides grams by 28.349523125, because that is 1/16 of the international pound. 100 g of flour is 3.5274 oz. 250 g of pasta is 8.8185 oz. 500 g of mince is 17.637 oz — a little more than a US “pound” pack, which is 453.6 g.
Baking is where the distinction matters. A “cup of flour” is a volume; this converter is mass. If a European recipe says 120 g flour and your US scale only has ounces, convert 120 g to 4.2329 oz and weigh that. Do not scoop a cup and hope it matches.
Postage and small parcels often show grams on a metric scale. 50 g is 1.7637 oz. USPS letter rates talk in ounces; converting the gram reading avoids the “about 2 ounces” guess that can change the stamp.
A troy ounce (precious metals) is about 31.1035 g — heavier than this kitchen ounce. Do not use this page for gold or silver quotes. A US fluid ounce is about 29.57 mL of volume; water happens to be close to 29.6 g per fl oz, but oil and honey are not. Use the millilitre converter for liquids sold by volume.
Chocolate bars, coffee bags and spice jars that say 100 g are 3.5274 oz, which is why a “4 oz” US bar is not the same product as a 100 g EU bar.
