How it works
Architects outside the US dimension rooms in metres. US site notes and many DIY videos still talk in feet. This page divides metres by 0.3048, the exact length of the international foot. One metre is 3.280839895 ft, shown as 3.2808 ft. Ten metres is 32.8084 ft. A 100 m sprint track is 328.0840 ft.
Ceiling height is the home-improvement case. A 2.4 m European ceiling is 7.8740 ft — a little under the US “8 foot” story. A 2.7 m ceiling is 8.8583 ft. The result is decimal feet, not 7 ft 10 in, until you take the 0.8740 and multiply by 12 (about 10.5 inches).
Diving and pool signs in metric countries say 3 m or 5 m. Those are 9.8425 ft and 16.4042 ft. US pools often mark 8 ft or 12 ft. Convert the number on the sign you have; do not assume a “3 metre board” is a 10 foot board (that would be 3.048 m).
Altitude and building height use the same factor. A 150 m tower is 492.1260 ft. Aviation still mixes feet and metres by region; this tool does not apply pressure altitude or geoid corrections — it only changes the length unit.
The US survey foot is a tiny fraction longer and is being retired for new work. This page uses the international foot only.

- How many feet are in a metre?
About 3.2808 feet (1 ÷ 0.3048). The foot is defined from the metre, not the other way around.
- How do I get feet and inches?
The whole number is feet. Multiply the decimal part by 12 for leftover inches. 2.4 m is 7.8740 ft, which is 7 ft plus about 10.5 in.
- Is this the same as converting feet to metres?
It uses the same 0.3048 definition in the opposite direction: divide metres rather than multiply feet.
- How many feet is a 50 metre pool?
50 ÷ 0.3048 ≈ 164.0420 ft. A US “50 yard” pool is 45.72 m — a different course.
- Does this convert square metres to square feet?
No. Area uses the square of the factor (about 10.7639 ft² per m²). This page is length only.
